| A Vintage Garage Cover Band | |||
| Our Story | |||
| In early 1970, two high school
musicians (trumpet players) with a passion for rock & roll, began to learn their
respective instruments; bass & guitar. Their heros were Eric Clapton, Jack
Bruce, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and many other
contemporary artists of the day. Their original instruments were a Sears (yes,
Sears!) guitar and a WEM bass. Amplifiers consisted of one old VM (Voice of Music)
reel to reel tape recorder used as a guitar amp, and a Checkmate bass guitar amp($
99.99 Plus Shipping). Diligently they studied the masters and became somewhat proficient in their pursuit of covers of their heros. All the while they searched for a lead guitar player and a drummer to round out the line up. Alas, after much negotiation and two years into their fledgeling rock & roll careers, they were able to score a talented lead player and a drummer who were previously unavailable due to commitments with other bands. From approximately 1971 through 1975, this lineup rehearsed in the basement of a catholic church that had a severe flooding problem in times of heavy rain. The rhythm guitarist's father continually complained of a mouldy smell accompanying the rhythm guitarist home from rehearsals. Despite criticism from many parental units, these intrepid musicians continued their quest for the perfect garage cover band, and reached their goal around 1972. They played several jobs, mostly high school dances and similar events. As with most bands, a parting of the ways occurred in 1976 with the original rhythm guitarist leaving the band. Curiously, he had other paths to follow; a budding career with the foremost (and ONLY at the time) telecommunications company, getting married, and having 3 children, getting divorced, bla bla bla. The bass player and remaining band members continued on, eventually parting ways for careers (law enforcement, engineering and god knows what else.) Thirty years have come and gone. Careers were fulfilled. Kids were born and grew up. And then one night, October 26, 2005 at Madison Square Garden in New York City the unthinkable happened. Hell froze over. The Red Sea parted. CREAM played MSG. Unbeknownst to each other, the bass player & rhythm guitarist both attended the same concert. We both saw our adolescent heros play the hits of old. Shortly thereafter, the former bass player reached out to the former rhythm guitarist. A reunion was held that spawned the purchase of two new amplifiers and a set of guitar strings. The future is unwritten... |

A unique blending of classic rock with updated equipment and gray hair. Sour Cream is an interpretive band, not duplicating note for note, but rather lending its own spin to those great classic songs of back in the day. | |||
